Hasanboy Dusmatov claims Olympic gold in light fly

Hasanboy Dusmatov (UZE) has won the gold in light flyweight competition in Rio, the first of all boxing medals to be awarded. Dusmatov wins Uzbekistan’s first Olympic medal of any color in men’s light fly. His opponent in the gold medal matchup Yurberjen Martinez won Colombia’s first Olympic silver medal in boxing and fourth medal overall in the sport.

Despite not taking the gold, Nico Hernandez wins the first Olympic boxing medal for the U.S. men since 2008 and the first U.S. medal of any color in men’s light fly since 1988 when Michael Carbajal won silver. Cuba’s top seed Joahnys Argilagos will also be awarded bronze.
