Carlin Isles, who is considered the fastest man in rugby, scored three tries to lead the U.S. men’s rugby team past Brazil 24-12.
The U.S. men were playing less than two hours after losing to top-seeded Fiji. The loss eliminated the U.S. from medal contention.
The U.S. shut out Brazil when the two teams played Tuesday night, but on Wednesday, Brazil got on the scoreboard first. The U.S. quickly responded, with Isles scoring a try after receiving a pass from Nate Ebner. Less than a minute later, Danny Barrett steamrolled a pair of Brazilian defenders for a try. Isles scored on the final play of the first half to send the U.S. into halftime leading 17-5.
Isles completed his hat trick in the second half by scoring his third try.
The U.S. men will return to the pitch on Thursday at noon ET. If they win, they will finish ninth in the final Olympic standings.
