Michael Phelps’ exploits in the swimming pool are well-documented, but you may not know about his amateur golf career.

Phelps in 2013 starred in Season 5 the Golf Channel reality show The Haney Project in an effort to improve his game. And just one year earlier, at an annual pro-am event on the European Tour, he made one of the more improbable putts you’ll ever see.

As Rich Lerner and Irish Olympic golf captain Paul McGinley recall in the video above, Phelps, then a 16 handicap, sunk a 153-foot putt for eagle during the second round of the 2012 Alfred Dunhill Links, held in Scotland less than two months after Phelps left London with four gold medals.
