WORCESTER, Mass. (WHDH) — Police radio calls shed light on the dramatic moments that ended outside the No Name Market on Vernon Street in Worcester.

A 26-year-old man armed with a large knife walked into the store, holding the weapon to the throat of a customer, police said. He allegedly demanded the clerk hand over money from the register.

The clerk then shot the suspect, according to police, before the suspect ran out of the store. Authorities said he was shot three times and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The man was later arrested and handcuffed to his hospital bed.

Police said the clerk was licensed to carry and they called the incident a case of self-defense.
