BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts authorities say Berkshire County hotel and its owner will pay more than $62,000 for making improper dedications from employees’ paychecks.

Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey’s office said Monday that five employees will get restitution for illegal payroll deductions under the settlement agreement reached with The Springs Inn hotel in New Ashford.

Healey says an investigation found that the hotel took money out of the employees’ paychecks when it wasn’t supposed to. The attorney general’s office says it began investigating after a former employee filed a complaint alleging he wasn’t compensated for numerous hours worked.

Healey’s office’s says the $62,000 will go toward repaying employees and paying penalties.

A message left at the hotel Monday was not immediately returned.
