Dorchester native Courtney Harrell took the stage Monday night on “The Voice” and gave a standout performance.

The 36-year-old former Berkeley music student and professional songwriter took the stage for the first time in 15 years.

She’s written music for Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Ne-Yo and Kelly Rowland.

She put her singing dreams on the back burner to raise her son, who is now 18 years old.
