PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) — A woman was found dead after a fire early Monday morning in a multi-family home in Rhode Island, officials said.

The fire was reported at about 6:30 a.m.

The woman was found in a first-floor unit of the Pawtucket home, according to State Fire Marshal Tim McLaughlin and Fire Chief William Sisson. Her name was not released.

Several other residents of the home made it out safely.

A firefighter was taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The cause remains under investigation, but authorities say its appears to have started in the victim’s unit.

Smoke was seen billowing from upper floor windows and the roof on the left side of the building partially collapsed, according to broadcast reports.
