CHATHAM, MASS. (WHDH) - Two people were injured after a helicopter crashed in Chatham Friday afternoon.

Chatham Police were called to the shoreline at Crows Pond just before 1 p.m. There, crews found a 2002 Robinson Helicopter partially submerged with two people trapped inside.

The pilot was identified as John Ryan, 48, of Scituate. His passenger was identified as photographer Tyra Pacheco, 48, of Acushnet. Both were freed from the wreckage by emergency responders. Ryan was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with serious injuries and Pacheco was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital with critical injuries.

Kathy Robertson said she saw the chopper hovering low, took a turn and came back even lower, eventually skidded across the water and landed at the edge of the pond.

Police said a preliminary investigation shows the helicopter was based out of Plymouth Airport and was hired for property aerial photography for a local real estate company.

Federal investigators arrived at the scene on Saturday.

A GoFundMe was set up for Pacheco, and those looking to donate can access it at https://www.gofundme.com/2a4nh8c.
