FITCHBURG, MASS. (WHDH) - Police say one man is dead and two people have been arrested after a fire in Fitchburg on Saturday night.

Officials say the fire was intentional.

Fitchburg Police and Fitchburg Fire responded just after 10:30 p.m. to an apartment on Laurel Street.

“Fitchburg firefighters entered the apartment and extinguished the flames, and discovered a badly burned deceased man. It appeared that the victim’s hands had been tied behind his back,” said the Worcester County District Attorney, in a press conference on Sunday.

Officials said they believe the incident was a robbery gone wrong.

According to the DA, investigation suggested that the victim and two other people arrived home around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday and were confronted by two masked assailants.

The DA says they believe the three victims were separated and the suspected concentrated their assault on one victim. Once the fire started, the other two victims were able to escape.

Investigators do not believe it was a random act, and that the victim was target by the assailants.

The investigation led to Bridgeport Connecticut, where two suspects were arrested without incident.

The suspects, Ramon Millan, 37, and Jose Crespo, 32, both of Bridgeport, Conn., are held on fugitive from justice charges in Bridgeport.

They will face charges in Massachusetts of assault with a deadly weapon, arson of a building and armed home invasion.

The DA stated in a press released, “We are still early in the investigation and it is possible that the charges will be upgraded.”
