We’re off to an iffy start to the weekend as nuisance rain and wet snow moves across the area. While it’s not a well organized area of low pressure, it develops right near us midday, and that’ll be enough for a tricky forecast. Light to moderate rain/snow is on and off early this morning with a heavier burst of precipitation late morning, through mid afternoon in eastern MA (11:00AM-3:00PM).
Temperatures are a tad too mild in Boston to keep it all snow flakes, and an easterly breeze should be just enough to keep it mainly raindrops along the coast as well as through most of Bristol and Plymouth counties. Although, a burst of heavy precipitation could go over to wet snow and drop a slushy coating or so near the city/coast for an hour or two.
There’s a better chance for a slushy coating to a couples inches just west of Boston, along the 95 corridor, with up to several inches of snow (2-4″) west of 95, toward the 495 belt and up into NH. With temperatures at or above freezing, and warm ground temperatures, aside from an occasional burst of snow coating the roads, most of the time should feature wet and not white roadways east of 95. West is a different story as temps hold near freezing. The bursts of snow will be good snowman and snowball snow with a high water content and sticky consistency.
A few lingering snow flurries are scattered about tonight and tomorrow, but most of the precipitation is over with as slightly cooler weather moves in.
Monday’s temps are close to seasonal levels before the bottom drops out Tuesday. Arctic air holds strong through much of next week with a close call with a storm on Thursday and with the cold air locked in, it would be snow if it doesn’t miss us to the south.
Ski Country and backyard skating rinks will do well with this upcoming pattern that settles in to end the last 10 days of the month as cold air rules and no more prolong thaws in sight.
