Let’s see…..yesterday, Chris & myself tracked severe thunderstorms, a possible tornado up in Rye NH (no touchdown confirmed) and a Hurricane. I’m almost nervous to ask what we track today……..volcanic activity?…locusts? Thankfully it’s the hurricane, and a cool front. Unfortunately we’re tracking it on the biggest holiday of the summer.
We actually can sneak in some sunshine early this morning so parades and other outdoor activities planned should be OK. This will only carry us until 11am as clouds & scattered showers arrive midday. For the afternoon the cool front begins to wring out tropical moisture in the form of downpours. These downpours won’t be isolated, they will be all over the place. The rain is expected to last well into the evening. Plan on localized street flooding later today & early this evening with most towns between 1-3″ of rain by the time the rain ends around 10pm.
As for wind from Arthur, we are still on the safe side of his track so I’m only looking at a 4 hour window–9pm until 1am—–where the wind will gust between 20-40mph on Cape Cod and Nantucket. While it’s true that nor’easters create stronger wind gusts those nor’easter winds aren’t traveling through trees with leaves. There may be some minor power disruption for a short time on the Cape/Nantucket due to the wind gusts. Again, just a few hours of an occasional wind gusts…nothing too bad. Wind isn’t an issue if you live off Cape.
As for the remainder of the Holiday Weekend. Simply awesome. Mostly sunny skies for tomorrow and again on Sunday. Warm temps & low humidity will be the rule. Even though Arthur is #Gotye to us over the weekend, he will be able to churn up the surf at most New England beaches so be prepared for dangerous rip currents and high surf. Hot & humid weather is set to return next week.
