BANGOR, Maine (AP) — Court documents indicate a Maine woman charged with killing her 2 1/2-year-old daughter gave her sleeping medication before smothering her.

Leanna Norris of Auburn is being held without bail in the death of Loh Melody Grenda, whose body was found in a car in Stetson on June 23.

The 24-year-old's lawyer tried to keep a state police affidavit sealed, but it was released by a judge Friday.

The affidavit indicates Norris told investigators she gave Benadryl to Loh Melody Grenda before putting duct tape over her face and covering her with a blanket. She said she killed her by putting her hand over her mouth and later tried to kill herself.

Police believe the youngster was killed in Newport before Norris drove to her parents' house, where her father dialed 911.
