AUBURN, Maine (AP) — A man has been charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of a man who died at Central Maine Medical Center, officials said.

Bryan W. Peabody, 25, of Auburn, was arrested Thursday evening after family members took him to the Auburn police station for questioning.

The victim, Lawrence Kilkenny, 48, of Lewiston, was stabbed Wednesday night. Emergency medical technicians found him in a driveway in Auburn, and he died later at the hospital.

Police declined to discuss motive, but friends say the killing may have been prompted by a dispute over a woman, the Sun Journal reported.

Peabody was taken to Androscoggin County Jail and is expected to make an initial court appearance on Friday or Monday. It was not known if he’d retained a lawyer.
