SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — State auditors are faulting the University of California for not addressing sexual misconduct complaints on time and not disciplining faculty swiftly.

Auditors reviewed how UC campuses in Berkeley, Los Angeles and Davis handled complaints.

The report released Thursday found some people accused of misconduct continued to sexually harass people after they were disciplined ineffectively.

They also found the UC system is slower to discipline faculty than staff and that the three campuses often missed investigation deadlines without approval.

State auditor Elaine Howle says the university system is aware of problems with its complaint process and is working to address them but needs to do more.

UC President Janet Napolitano says the system accepts the audit report’s recommendations and is working to improve its process.
