SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Springfield police say the death of an elderly man whose body was found inside a burning car is not considered suspicious.

Police spokesman Sgt. John Delaney said in a statement that witnesses told police the car blew up. He said it's being treated as an unattended death and possible suicide.

Police and fire crews responded to a parking lot the intersection of Cottage Street and Industry Avenue just before midnight Monday where they found the vehicle engulfed in flames.

Delaney said the medical examiner is in the process of positively identifying the man, whose body was badly burned.
