SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (AP) — Authorities say the body of a young girl has been found in the Connecticut River near where a 5-year-old girl reportedly fell in the water on Saturday.

The Northwest District Attorney's office said the body is presumed to be the missing child, but the state medical examiner will make a positive identification in the next few days.

Spokeswoman Mary Carey said the missing girl's family has been notified. Carey said the body was found about 500 yards downstream from where the child went missing at about 9 p.m. Saturday.

The girl and her family came from California to visit relatives. She was last seen on a dock on the river where she is believed to have fallen.
