BOSTON (WHDH) - A Boston taxi driver returned hundreds of thousands of dollars that a passenger left behind in his cab.

Buzzy MacCausland said a passenger left a backpack in his taxi Saturday afternoon. When he opened it, he saw three bundles of cash and immediately brought it to a Boston police station. Police emptied the back and found several more bundles of cash inside. In all, the backpack contained $187,000.

Through paperwork found in the backpack, police were able to track down the owner and return the money. MacCausland said the man had told him he had been homeless for several months. Police found out the man had been left the money recently when his father passed away. As a reward for returning his money, the man gave MacCausland $100.

MacCausland has been driving cabs for 50 years and said he always tries to return things left behind by his passengers. This is not the first time he has found a large amount of money in his cab either; 30 years ago, MacCausland said a passenger left $10,000 in payroll in the backseat. MacCausland returned it to the man but did not get a tip that time.
