BOURNE, MASS. (WHDH) - Police in Bourne are investigating after a report of a 14-year-old girl being assaulted while walking to her bus stop.

Police say they received a call before 7:00 a.m. that the girl had been walking along Puritan Road when she was grabbed from behind and thrown to the ground by an unknown man.

The man reportedly grabbed the girl by the neck, but a witness came upon the scene and stopped the assault. The man then fled the scene.

The vehicle in which the suspect escaped was described as a light-color (blue or gray) sedan, older model, with a license plate that may have contained SW or 5W.

The suspect was described as a white man of medium height, with gray stubble. Police say he may have been in his late 20s or early 30s.

The victim was not injured in the assault.

Officers are investigating the incident but say there is no indication of increased risk to other children in the area.
