BOSTON (WHDH) - The Boston Police Department is increasing security to keep people safe at this weekend’s Caribbean Festival.

The parade and festival runs along Blue Hill Avenue and ends in front of the Franklin Park Zoo. Starting Friday night, additional officers will patrol the area.

Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said violence has happened the night before the festival in past years. He hopes the added security will help prevent that this year.

“This is a great family day, it’s a lot of fun. Come out, enjoy it, but please. We’re pleading with people. In the past, there has been violence around this parade. We want to make sure nobody gets hurt tomorrow,” said Evans.
