Cameras captured a head-on crash in Reading.

Police said it was caused by a cell phone.

The driver is now expected to face charges for texting while behind the wheel.

The driver who took the video said he knew something bad was bound to happen.

He was driving on Lowell Road in North Reading, when he noticed the driver of the sedan in front of him was texting on her phone and swerving all over the road.

He took out his phone to get video, and seconds later the car veered across the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic.

Officers said both drivers involved in the crash were hurt, but didn’t suffer life-threatening injuries.

North Reading police cited the 33-year-old driver who caused the crash with sending or reading text messages while driving, a law that’s only been effective in Massachusetts since 2010.

The home video gave police all the evidence they needed against the Lawrence woman who caused the crash.

Officials also said the video shows the dangers of distracted driving.

The crash comes just as more than 200 police departments across Massachusetts participate in a month-long campaign to crack down on drivers who illegally text behind the wheel.
