BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) — The trial of Barnstable woman charged with stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from a charity she founded to help families struck by tragedy has started.

The Cape Cod Times reports that jury selection in the trial of 42-year-old Gina Clark started Monday in Barnstable Superior Court and is expected to continue Tuesday.

Clark faces multiple fraud and embezzlement charges.

Prosecutors say Clark founded Touched by Angels Inc. in 2007 to raise money to help families dealing with tragedy or overwhelming medical costs pay the bills. Authorities say she asked for donations and held fundraisers, but kept most of the money for herself. She was indicted in March 2011.

Her lawyer has previously said she denies the charges.
