Belmont Fire officials confirm two people have been rushed to the hospital after a commuter rail train struck a black SUV on the Fitchburg Line.

The crash happened on Brighton Street and Hittinger Street in the area known as Hills Crossing in Belmont this morning.

Police officials said the woman driving the SUV managed to get three kids out of the car before the train struck. The woman is suffering serious injuries, according to an MBTA employee.

A crossing bar could be seen laying on top of the SUV that was struck. Reports say the car was not broken down and it is unclear why the car was on the tracks.

MBTA employees said the warning lights were working properly at the time of the crash.
