BOSTON (WHDH) - Jose Baez will be representing former Patriots player Aaron Hernandez later this year in his double murder trial in Boston.

Baez met with Hernandez Monday at the prison where he is serving a life sentence for the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd. At the time, Baez would only confirm that the two met and would not go into details.

Baez is now confirming that he will be Hernandez’s lawyer in his trial for the murder of two men in the South End back in 2012. Hernandez is accused of shooting Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado following an argument at a nightclub.

“Mr. Hernandez strongly maintains his innocence and I plan to establish that before a jury of his peers,” said Baez in a statement. He said he has assembled the best legal team for the trial, including a Harvard Law School professor.

Baez is best known for defending Florida mother Casey Anthony when she was found not guilty of murdering her young daughter in 2011. A private investigator recently claimed that Anthony admitted to Baez that she killed her daughter and paid him with sex. Baez denies these allegations.
