SANDWICH, Mass. (WHDH) — A woman in Sandwich came home to a disturbing image of her pet cat. The cat couldn’t walk and was paralyzed from the waist down. It turned out it had been shot.

“It’s awful. My poor cat was probably lying there for a whole night,” said owner, Michelle Wolf.

Mr. Paws was rushed to the animal hospital but his injuries were so bad he had to be put down.

“I was shocked, I was really shocked. I was like, really, who would do that?” said Wolf.

Now the Animal Rescue League and Sandwich Police are working together to figure out who shot the cat and why.

“Somebody’s going to get caught and I know the police around here are very good and they will catch whoever did this,” said Wolf’s boyfriend, Carl MacDonald.

A ballistics test will help determine what kind of bullet was used and the type of gun. But for now Wolf and her boyfriend are warning neighbors to keep an eye out.
