MALDEN, MASS. (WHDH) - A Boston charity spread holiday cheer by distributing Christmas trees to families in need on Saturday.

The drive was organized by Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD), who collected more than 40 fresh-cut Christmas trees to give out. Decorations and tree stands were also provided to families.

“As a child growing up, that’s one of the highlights of the year — looking forward to having a tree and finding your presents,” said ABCD Manager Aiesha Washington. “And I wanted to make sure as many children here who wouldn’t have that opportunity this year would have that chance.”

Families picked up their trees from a lot in Malden. Those who were unable to make it had their trees delivered to their living rooms by ABCD volunteers. Those who received trees said they appreciate the thoughtful gesture.

“It means a lot, especially nowadays with everything going on,” said Kathi Voutour, of Malden. “It means a lot to us to know that there are helpful people out there that still care and want to actually help people who need it.”
