BOSTON (WHDH) - Police confirm that a young boy found alone at a Mattapan playground Saturday night has been placed in DCF custody.

At 6:33 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a call for a child found at Ryan Playground on River Street.

The boy was found barefoot, wearing a gray t-shirt and riding a red tricycle. Police then learned his name was Adriel. Twenty hours later, his parents contacted police about their son.

“You don’t just misplace a child,” said Claudine Jones, who was at Ryan Playground Sunday with her two young children. “He’s not house keys, he’s not a telephone, this is a baby we’re talking about.”

In a statement, the Department of Children and Families said they are investigating the incident and the boy will remain in their custody until they figure out why he was alone in the first place.
