GEORGETOWN, MASS. (WHDH) - Police are investigating the death of an 8-year-old boy in Georgetown, according to the Essex County District Attorney.

The incident occurred on Jewett Street.

The boy, who was later identified as 8-year-old George Carter of Georgetown and Methuen, was trampled by a cow around 12:45 p.m. Saturday.

He was taken to the Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport, where he was pronounced dead.

Carter lived primarily with his mother in Methuen, but his father lives in Georgetown.

According to the Essex County DA, the boy’s father owns 24 cows, which he raises for beef. They were exercising the cows when one of them apparently spooked and trampled the boy.

Foul play is not suspected.
