ORLEANS, MASS. (WHDH) - The coach and teammates of the swimmer who died while taking a lifeguard test in Orleans recently spoke out about his death.
Jack Jakubek was a competitive college swimmer.
He died over the weekend off the coast of Cape Cod during lifeguard try outs.
His college swimming coach said he was a passionate, focused and driven young man.
“He was the kind of athlete every coach loves to have, because he would just work his butt off every day. Never complained about anything,” coach Brian Tobin said. “If he had a bad day, you couldn’t tell unless you really poked and prodded.”
“Jack was a great leader he was always…he was someone you wanted to look up to and wanted to be like when you got older,” fellow SUNY Cortland swimmer Madysen Eckhardt said.
Officials are waiting on an autopsy to determine his cause of death.
