BOSTON (WHDH) - Recently retired Red Sox slugger David Ortiz has taken to The Players Tribune to offer his final goodbye to the city of Boston.

Ortiz, who recently turned 41, wrote a letter reflecting on his career and thanking the fans of Boston for his incredible career.

“It’s weird when it ends,” Ortiz begins the post. “It’s not how you think it’s gonna be.”

Ortiz told several stories from his career, including the ups and downs, stories about Pedro Martinez and Manny Ramirez, and his favorite moments from the team’s three world championships in 2004, 2007, and 2013.

Ortiz added, “Boston, thank you. When I came to this city, I didn’t know if I had a future. Now I have a home. Thank you for making me one of your own.”
