SAUGUS, MASS. (WHDH) - An iconic dinosaur statue from a Saugus miniature golf course will remain along Route 1 after the golf course closes.
For more than 50 years, the orange dinosaur at the Route 1 Miniature Golf Course and Batting Cages has welcomed visitors. Many were left wondering what would happen to the dinosaur after the business announced that it would be closing later this month.
Michael Barsamian and his business partner are developing the land the golf course sits on for a new project. The dinosaur was initially not included in the deal, as Barsamian figured golf course owner Diana Fay would want to sell it separately. After he heard so many people wanted to see the dinosaur remain, Barsamian said he knew he had to keep it. Barsamian made a deal with Fay to ensure the dinosaur would not be going anywhere.
“We always wanted him to stay on the land,” said Fay. “We wanted him to remain home.”
Barsamian said the dinosaur will remain in his current spot for now but he said he wants to give the prehistoric reptile a name.
The golf course will remain open to visitors until Sept. 25.
