NEWTON, MASS. (WHDH) - A dog is recovering after getting struck by a hit-and-run driver in Newton and now his owners want to find who is responsible.

Nathaniel Lamon believes his dog, Diesel, escaped through an open gate in the yard and was roaming the street when he got hit. Lamon found his dog badly hurt and covered in blood.

Doctors said Diesel is lucky to be alive and is expected to be OK. While no one saw Diesel get hit, doctors said he was most likely hit by a car because lots of asphalt had to be cleaned from his wounds.

Diesel is now recovering at home and Lamon said he and his family are grateful to have him home from the hospital.

“Presents mean nothing but the health of my fur baby,” said Lamon. “I love him to death, he’s my best friend.”

Anyone interested in helping out Diesel can do so here.
