WORCESTER, MASS. (WHDH) - WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) – Heavy rain has swept through central and eastern Massachusetts causing flooding on local streets and roads.

The National Weather Service says Friday night’s storm dumped about 5 inches of rain on Worcester and 2 to 3 inches on other communities.

Dozens of motorists became stranded in their vehicles.

Police urged people to stay off the roads, as the water is as much as 6 feet deep in some spots.

Officials said some manhole covers have also come loose from the flood water.
