HAMPTON, N.H. (WHDH) — A driver crashed into a New Hampshire toll booth, propping his truck halfway up the structure.

Chris Desjardins said he blacked out while driving and hit the toll booths on Interstate 95 south, just missing the toll collector inside.

Desjardins said he was trying to move his mother’s car earlier and he over-exerted himself. When he was driving, he didn’t think much of it, but then decided to pull over after the toll. He then started feeling light headed and woke up to find his car upright with him behind the wheel.

“The next thing I knew I was up in the rafters of the toll booth,” said Desjardins. “I looked out the window, you know, I didn’t try to open the door to get out since it’s probably 20 feet up.”

His first call was not to 911, but his boss.

“He really didn’t believe me. I actually texted him a picture of the dash and stuff and I was like, ‘yeah I’m actually up here,’” said Desjardins.

His car is now sitting in a junk lot, but Desjardins is just thankful nobody was hurt.

“I drive through there twice a day, every day to go to work, so I don’t know,” he said. “I think I might take tomorrow off.”

Desjardins suffered minor scrapes and bruises.

Police said Desjardins also hit a second car, but the driver was not hurt. Police are investigating the accident.
