BELLINGHAM, Mass. (WHDH) — A elderly driver crashed into the Bellingham Public Library Friday morning.
On arrival, emergency crews found that the vehicle had driven completely through the exterior wall and the vehicle was completely inside the library. The vehicle was a black sedan driven by an 87-year-old woman who had a passenger. Witnesses said the car was pulling into a parking spot when the car suddenly sped forward into the building.
The library was open but nobody was in the room where the crash occurred. Librarians said the room is usually used for children’s programs but the children’s librarian was off Friday. The library was evacuated while a building inspector checked for structural damage but the building has since reopened.
The driver and her passenger were treated for minor injuries and released. Bellingham Police said they will file an immediate threat on the driver with the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
