Elderly man, child hit by car in Boston

BOSTON (WHDH) - An elderly man and a child were struck by a car while walking along the sidewalk on Commonwealth Ave Tuesday night, according to Boston police.

The incident occurred near Boston University.

Police said the driver of an SUV ran into the back of an Uber car that had pulled over, and then crashed through yellow barriers on the sidewalk.

Sources told 7News the driver, a college student, was texting while driving. Police said she told them she looked down at her phone, and looked up too late to avoid crashing into the Uber.

The victims, a 78-year-old grandfather and his 10-year-old grandson, were rushed to the hospital. They are expected to be OK.

The driver was cited, and is facing several serious charges.
