Boston Public School officials say they’re investigating after an elementary school student found a hypodermic needle on a school bus.

Officials say the girl was on her way to Winthrop Elementary School in Dorchester on Thursday morning when she found the needle in a bus compartment and told the driver. They say she may have been pricked.

The driver then pulled over and called emergency responders. The girl was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The district says drivers will continue to sweep all buses daily.

Additional checks will be performed on half size buses, the type of bus on which the incident happened.
