SALEM, N.H. (WHDH) - New Hampshire State Police are investigating a fatal crash in on Route 111 in Salem, N.H.

Just after 4:30 p.m., officials received calls of a serious crash at the intersection of Rt. 111 and Ermer Road.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash. When officers arrived the occupants had suffered serious life threatening injuries.

Initial investigation found that a 45-year-old man turned westbound onto Route 111 and struck another driver, also traveling westbound. The cause of the collision pushed the second car into the eastbound lane where it struck another car that was traveling eastbound.

The 69-year-old woman in the third car was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of that car was transported to Beth Israel Hospital via medical helicopter.

The driver of the second car was eventually transported to Elliot Medical Center in Manchester, N.H.

The driver of the first car was treated and released from the scene with minor injuries.

Police said Rt. 111 will be closed from Zachary’s Crossing to Island Pond Road in Derry for an undetermined amount of time on Wednesday.
