CAMBRIDGE, MASS. (WHDH) - An investigation is underway after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said multiple aircrafts were targeted by lasers in the Cambridge area.
According to the FAA, pilots reported seeing lasers upon approach to Logan International Airport. The incidents occurred between midnight and 6 a.m. on Wednesday.
Cambridge Police said pilots reported seeing laser beams coming from an area west of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology campus and possibly Lambert Street at around 1:50 a.m. on Wednesday.
The FAA confirmed that 12 aircraft were impacted: United 389, a Boeing 737, United Parcel Service 1012, a Boeing 767, United 670, a Boeing 737, Spirit Airlines 103, an Airbus A320, Spirit Airlines 640, an Airbus A320 and two MedFlight Sikorsky SK76 helicopter flights. MedFlight is a non-profit organization that provides emergency response teams.
Police officers inspected the area pilots believed the light beam was coming from but found nothing.
The FAA said they will continue to investigate and that State Police have also been notified. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
