FALMOUTH, MASS. (WHDH) - A man was arrested after police said he threw an opened bag of heroin at two police officers in Falmouth.

Police said Russell Pena, 38, attacked the two officers after a drug bust while he was being booked at the police station. Pena allegedly took a bag of heroin out of his pants, tore it open and threw it at the officers. One of the officers was hit in the face.

The two officers were transported to Falmouth Hospital due to “exposure to narcotics.”

Before the incident at the station, police said Pena’s rented car was pulled over near Falmouth Harbor to executed search warrants. Police said they searched the vehicle and found marijuana, cocaine, and $1,450 in cash.

Pena is being charged with two counts of attempted murder, possession, and assault and battery. His passenger in the vehicle, 48-year-old Michael Lopes of Mashpee, was charged with conspiracy.
