CHATHAM, MASS. (WHDH) - An app from the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy helped warn a family of a nearby shark that they spotted on the beach in Chatham.

Beth Goldstein and her children were at Chatham’s Inlet Monday when they saw something in the water.

“We saw a giant blob, a giant black blob and we saw a fin and we just knew,” said 9-year-old Annie Goldstein.

None of the family had been in the water because of Sharktivity, an app Beth Goldstein downloaded from the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy. The app had sent Beth an alert about the shark in the area.

A photo taken from above showed the Great White was very close to the coast.
