PEABODY, MASS. (WHDH) - The FBI Most Wanted website has offered $1,000 for information on a robber they have named the “Spelling Bee Bandit,” who they believe has robbed banks at four separate North Shore locations in the last few weeks.

Investigators say the man has robbed banks in the towns of Arlington, Reading and Burlington, and most recently a TD Bank in the city of Peabody on Lynnfield Street last Sunday.

On Halloween, investigators say the man robbed another TD Bank on Massachusetts Avenue in Arlington. He robbed a banks in Reading and Burlington on Nov. 5 and Nov. 7.

The FBI said the suspect puts on sunglasses before entering the bank, and gives the teller a withdrawal slip with the word “Robery” written on it. The misspelling is how the man earned his title, the Spelling Bee Bandit.

The MassMostWanted Tip Program is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the man, who they say was wearing jeans, a dark jacket, dark sneakers with white soles and a white New England Patriots hat when he robbed the TD Bank in Peabody. Investigators say he is a white man in his 30’s-40’s.

ARLINGTON, MA – Oct. 31, a man robbed the TD Bank at 880 Mass. Ave. in Arlington. The same man is believed to be responsible for three similar robberies over the last two weeks.
In each case, according to an FBI Wanted poster, the white man in his 30s or 40s entered the bank, put on sunglasses, and wrote “Robbery” [sic] on the back of a withdrawal slip, and passed it to the teller.
According to the FBI, the suspect has grown increasingly aggressive with each robbery. The robberies occurred , Nov.5, Nov. 7, and Nov. 13, in Reading, Burlington, and Peabody.
