MENDON, MASS. (WHDH) - A woman has died as a result of her injuries following a crash with a school bus in Mendon on Wednesday.

Cheryl Drainville, 57 of Bellingham, was a passenger in the car that collided with the school bus.

According to police, the crash happened on Route 140 at around 8:30 a.m. When officers arrived they found a car with heavy damage.

Sixteen elementary school-age children on the bus were headed to a YMCA camp in Franklin when the crash happened. All of the children were uninjured and were picked up by their parents.

The driver of the car, Richard Drainville, 33 of Woonsocket, R.I., remains hospitalized.

The crash is currently under investigation but police said preliminary witness reports indicate excessive speed may have been a factor.
