1 person is confirmed to have died from a house fire in Gloucester.

The fire broke out in a home on Hammond St. early Monday morning.

Neighbors say the man in his 50s or early 60s grew up in the home, and lived alone.

The Gloucester Fire Chief says the second floor of the home was fully involved in flames, and firefighters were unable to make it all the way up the stairs to reach the victim.

The flames were so intense, the department had to fight the fire from outside of the home.

The fire has been knocked down, and the fire marshal is on scene with firefighters investigating the cause.

The victim has not yet been identified.
