A dog went on a lengthy journey Monday before she was rescued from the water.
The 14-year-old black Labrador, named Fergie, was found swimming 9 miles away from her home. She was headed toward an island in Miami Bay when someone spotted her and called 911.
Meanwhile, two good Samaritans jumped in the water to try and rescue her. Miami Police arrived and helped get Fergie back on dry land.
Officials said Fergie’s owners left the house two hours ago and did not realize she was able to get out. She then jumped in the water, thinking she was going to find her owners on the island.
