SANIBEL, FL (NBC) — A suspect is in custody after shooting a Florida police officer.
Sanibel Police say officer Jarred Ciccone was shot and injured while conducting a routine traffic stop around 8 p.m. on Sunday.
They say the suspect fled the scene but was taken into custody after exchanging gunfire with officers.
Officials say Officer Ciccone was transported to a local hospital where he was treated na released.
The neighborhood in which the suspect was captured was put on lock down but has since been cleared.
