Former Massachusetts House Speaker Sal DiMasi arrived at Logan Airport Tuesday after getting compassionate early release from federal prison.

DiMasi, who has cancer, said he is happy to be home in Boston.

He spoke to the media after landing.

“It’s a very emotional day for me,” said DiMasi.

“I’m looking forward to regaining my health and being taken care of by my own doctors,” he said.

He also commented on how grateful he was for the support of his wife and children.

He was convicted of fraud, conspiracy and extortion in 2011.

DiMasi served five years of his eight year sentence.
