NEWTON, MA (WHDH) – A former maintenance worker at a Newton daycare was arraigned Thursday on child pornography charges.

A letter was sent out to families from Family Access of Newton.

According to the letter, the worker was charged with possession and distribution of child pornography.

Arlington Police announced the arrest of Mason Lister, 21 of Arlington, Thursday afternoon.

According to police, Lister was arrested after police learned he was allegedly trading obscene images of children on social media, including DropBox, Kik and Twitter.

School officials said all required background checks were completed.

The worker is no longer employed at the daycare. School officials said his job responsibilities never included any contact with children.

“The safety of our children is always the primary concern and we are cooperating fully with the authorities,” officials said in the letter.

Lister was held at the Arlington Police Department until arraignment in Cambridge District Court, where he plead “not guilty.”

He was released on $10,000 bail and ordered to wear a GPS.
