WESTFORD, MASS. (WHDH) - A freight train carrying hazardous materials was derailed on Bridge Street at Pine Ridge Road in Westford late Tuesday night.

No one was injured and none of the hazardous materials that one train carried were spilled when the train went off track.

Officials said ferrous chloride was in one of the tanks, but fortunately it didn’t spill or leak.

Crews worked to clean up the railway and closed the surrounding roads.

Officials expect the cleanup to last for an extended period of time.

The freight lines are under scrutiny, as this is the second derailment in the past two years.

Westford Selectman Don Siriani says he isn’t pleased with the incident.

“I know my friends, neighbors, constituents would like answers, and I would too.”

In the meantime, crews are working to move the hazardous materials to an upright position while avoiding any leaks.
