The last of the showers continue to fall across eastern Mass this morning, with clearing skies working in from west to east through mid-morning. Good Riddance Arthur! After flash flooding from New Bedford to Plymouth yesterday and tropical storm force winds over the Cape and Islands, it’ll be nice to get back to sunshine and lower humidity. Away from the areas in southeast Mass that saw the flooding, most towns picked up between 1-2.5″ of rain, which was actually beneficial to the lawns and gardens. Just wish the timing was better, right?
The breeze is still active through the day, gusting to 25-30mph, as temps rise toward 80 degrees this afternoon. If you’re heading back to the beach this afternoon, the surf is still turned up and there’s the moderate risk of rips currents out there. The most prone beaches will the National Seashore of Cape Cod, and east and south facing beaches of the Islands and Cape Ann to the New Hampshire Coast. If you’re caught in a rip current, don’t fight it trying to swim in, swim parallel to the coast, and once you’re out of that channel of water pulling you out (the rip current), then swim back in.
Temps continue to warm over the next several days, eventually nearing 90 again early to mid next week.
