A senior living center in Kansas is adopting a special kind of therapy to treat patients with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Evie, a robotic seal, is the center’s newest staff member.

She has thousands of sensors and video cameras in her eyes.

The therapeutic robot learns to recognize patients and is especially helpful in treating those with Alzheimer’s.

"To create new pathways for learning and remember," Maria Lopeman, of Legend Senior Living, said. "No cure for this disease but there are opportunities to make life better for each one of those people who are affected by it. And Evie certainly does that for us."

Studies show a treatment session with Evie can have significant effects, including decreases in medication for depressed, anxious and aggressive patients.
